An Icon, Improved: Anthora Gets a More Civilized Lid.

We sell the one and only genuine, original Anthora paper coffee cup—the same blue-and-white icon clutched by New Yorkers on sidewalks, subway platforms, and job sites for more than 60 years. It’s the cup that fueled cab drivers and copy editors, night-shift nurses and Wall Street interns; the cup that became shorthand for New York itself. The graphics are unchanged, the proportions are unchanged, and the ritual is unchanged: hot coffee, strong opinions, and a city already in motion. This is not a reproduction or a reinterpretation. It’s the real thing, still doing exactly what it has always done—delivering coffee with character.
Only one thing has improved with time: the lid. Gone is the old flat lid, prone to dribbles, spills, and awkward sips. In its place is the far more civilized dome lid, a small but meaningful evolution. The dome lid protects the coffee’s aroma, allows for a smoother, more natural sip, and dramatically reduces spills—especially important when you’re walking fast, talking faster, or gesturing mid-story, as New Yorkers tend to do. It’s better engineered for modern life while preserving the soul of the original cup. Same icon. Same attitude. Just a smarter way to drink it.
Dedicated to preserving the legacy of the iconic Anthora coffee cup – a true symbol of New York City’s street culture, corner delis, and daily rituals – NY Coffee Cup celebrates its enduring design, cultural significance, and place in coffee history, both in NYC and beyond.
